What the critics say

by Mark Van Stone
Maya Scholars, in Mexico, Guatemala, Belize, Honduras, El Salvador and North America, have been watching with amusement and dismay as self-styled experts proclaim that ancient Maya prophets foretold an earth-shattering happening to occur December 21, 2012. This predicted phenomenon gets described in contradictory but often cataclysmic fashion--as an ecological collapse, a sunspot storm, a rare cosmic conjunction of the earth, sun, and the galactic center, a new and awesome stage of our evolution, and even a sudden reversal of the Earth's magnetic field which will erase all our computer drives. One even predicts the earth's initiation into a Galactic Federation, whose elders have been accelerating our evolution with a "galactic beam" for the last 5000 years. In sum, the world as we know it will suddenly come to a screeching halt.
Other similar mainstream cable and network television programs immediately followed which also linked the Mayan calendar to other various doomsday predictions such as: an ABC News, 20/20 series segment entitled, "Last Days on Earth", which aired in 2006; a second History Channel follow-up segment for their cable television series Decoding the Past entitled, "Doomsday 2012 - The End of Days", which aired in 2007; an A&E produced program entitled, "Seven Signs of the Apocalypse", which also aired on the History Channel in 2008; and yet another Hollywood produced, History Channel documentary entitled, "Nostradamus 2012", airing in 2009.While the power of media's influence can be easily seen through nationally televised programs, nothing can really compete with the far-reaching affect obtained in the release of a mainstream Hollywood film. In 2009, an epic orgy of earthly destruction was unleashed in the blockbuster Hollywood movie simply entitled, "2012".

In a modern society, most of the false hype leading to widespread misconceptions and fears are normally attributed to an extensive saturation of highly sensationalized mass media programming.

In fairness to the New Age community, however, great credit should be given to it for helping to generate a tremendous amount of unprecedented worldwide interest in the culture of the ancient Maya. Additionally, although many in the established circles of academia would mock the good intentioned mispronouncements of New Age authors, it should always be kept in mind that it was from academia that the initial false claims of an ancient Mayan doomsday prophecy originally arrived.”

I agree in that in order to know where we are going we have to know where we have been. But then history shows that people never learn from history. Is anyone listening now?

Scientific facts that we do know:

“On that morning, the Earth and Sun will align with the “Dark Rift” near the Galactic Center. This event last happened about 25,800 years ago.
-The magnetic poles of the Earth may reverse, leaving us unprotected from cosmic radiation for a time. The effect of magnetic fields on human creativity, initiative, mood, etc., is still unknown.

-NASA predicts an unusually powerful “Solar Maximum” (sunspot season) for 2012 (though it may peak as early as late 2011), during which time there occur disruptions to satellite and other electromagnetic communications.

-The usual disasters loom: food shortages, cataclysmic storms due to global warming, gasoline prices going through the roof, looming chaos in the Middle East – site of Biblical Eden –which will disrupt oil production and bring civilization to a grinding halt.”

Russell Colgate professor of astronomy and anthropology at Colgate University offers this:
" ... We live in a techno-immersed, materially oriented society that seems somewhat bewildered about
where rational, empirical science might be taking us. This may be why the mystical, escapist explanations
of a galactic endpoint, replete with precise mathematical, historical, and cosmic underpinnings
(masquerading as science), have such wide appeal. In an age of anxiety we reach for the wisdom of
ancestors--even other peoples' ancestors--that might have been lost in the drifting sands of time.
Perhaps the only way we can take back control of our disordered world is to rediscover their lost
knowledge and make use of it. And so we romanticize the ancient Maya ..." quoted from a longer
 article by,www.archaeology.org.

There will always be two sides to an issue and this case is no different. As humans though we generally fail to embrace the potentiality of what the opposing viewpoint might have to offer.

Have you ever watched the movie ‘Sphere’? The underlying message relates to what it would be like if we did not experience time and found that everything that a person experiences is a manifestation of their individual imaginations and especially fears. For us it is only time that prevents us from experiencing the law of cause and effect immediately. This Universal Law teaches that what we send out into the world will ultimately have a corresponding effect at some later date.  As above, so below which on the individual level translates as ‘as within, so without’. As such this shows that we do possess a creative power that helps to shape our reality. I say it also reinforces the concept that all that is created is first constructed in the mind.

So does life imitate art, or does art imitate life. I have my own theories about that and I believe that the big ticket movies of doom and gloom do have some thread of truth, perhaps even prophecy buried within.

In my personal reality I have experienced over the past year that my own mind is definitely accelerating and I have also observed that the Law of Karma is sometimes happening quicker as well. I see these as signs of the promise that 2012 may well involve a new ‘awakening’ for at least some of humanity which can fuel greater understanding, compassion, generosity and brotherhood. I yearn for the time when we can all ‘just get along’.

As global problems increase there will have to be a nexus point of widespread change; something’s gotta give and I don’t see our world leaders moving too quickly towards resolutions while they bide their time in anticipation of a new world order.

Every day is the beginning of the end;
Every day is the start of a new world.
Be thoughtful of what you hear and predict
lest it may become your truth. A.Tenes
Will this long awaited date result in A New AWAKENING,TRANSFORMATION, and subsequent RESURRECTION

OR

 death, destruction, chaos and calamity?

And what about those aliens?
